Compliance Dept.

The Compliance Department was formed in 2017 to handle a variety of citizen complaints and reports of ordinance violations.  Code compliance ensures that Livingston Parish regulations are enforced consistently and equitably. A wide variety of ordinance issues are routinely addressed including inoperative vehicles, junkyard complaints, permit violations and other nuisance and miscellaneous complaints.  All complaints are investigated and assigned to a Compliance Officer to process and work with all parties, complainants/owners/tenants/etc. in an effort to resolve the matter by voluntary compliance.  If this effort is not successful, fines may be levied and/or criminal/civil action may be instituted.  Unfortunately, this process can, and usually does, take several months to complete.

MS4-Compliance officers also serve as Certified Stormwater Inspectors.  They monitor new commercial and residential developments throughout the entire development process.  In the beginning stages of new residential and commercial developments, they attend pre-construction and/or preliminary meetings with the Planning Dept., developers and contractors. Once construction has begun, they do monthly inspections of each development to ensure compliance with all ordinances as well as local and state permits.
