In 2001, the Livingston Parish Council adopted an ordinance establishing building codes and inspections for Livingston Parish.

Our office is divided into two main divisions, Building and Permit Department.

The Permit Department is responsible for issuing permits for all renovations, new residential and commercial construction including but not limited to all electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits. The department also issues occupancy permits for all structures including the addressing of structures.

The Building Department is responsible for all plan review and inspections of all construction pertaining to the adopted 2009 International Building Code & 2009 International Residential Code. The sequence of inspections is as follows:

  • Temporary Pole Inspection (if applicable)
  • Plumbing Rough-in
  • Foundation
  • Electrical Rough-in, Plumbing Top-out, Mechanical Rough-in and Framing
  • Electrical Final, Mechanical Final, Plumbing Final and Certificate of Occupancy

All inspections may be scheduled through calling the office at 225-686-3021 during the hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday thru Thursday.

Additional information can be obtained thru the building/permit office in the form of a packet containing all required forms and applications.
